| We are sad to announce that Anne Leslie passed away on October 19th 2010 from natural causes. She is survived by her husband Francis and her four sons. We are hoping to convert this website into a celebration of her art work in the future. Please feel free to browse this site for smaples of her work. Anne was one of a few American artists who practiced silhouette portraiture. Using only a pair of scissors and black paper whe was able to create life-like protratis of a sitting subject within a few minutes. As her slogan suggests, wiggly children were her specialty. She was a welcome guets at craft shows and shops across the country. If you were fortunate enough to have her create a portrait of yourself or your children you are holding on to a true piece of original american art and history. We'd love to hear from you if you have stories or would like to share images of her artwork please contact her son Eric Keller at robotball@yahoo.com Emails sent to the paperpaint address mentioned on this site will not be answered. Also please do not try and book an appointement while we are in the process of redesigning the site. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 23rd at Bush Hill Presbyterian church in Alexandria, VA at 2 PM. 4916 Franconia Road Alexandria VA 223210. If you have a silhoutette protrait that was created by Anne Leslie and you did not have a chance to get it framed you can still do so. Contact her husband Francis Leslie before December 15th and he will frame the portrait. His email is lesliefw@aol.com or call him at (703)-960-0095
Welcome to the Paper Paintbrush web site! I am Anne Leslie, owner of The Paper Paintbrush, and my business is making silhouette portraits and teaching papercutting skills. I generally schedule three to four eighteenth century craft shows per year, and fifteen to twenty appearances at shops or schools, plus studio sittings by appointment. I have created this site to share with you some examples of my work, to tell you a little bit about the artistry of silhouettes, and to give you a little background information on how I got my start as a silhouette artist. Use the links to view my gallery, calendar, and blog. Download Brochures in Microsoft Word format: Paper Paintbrush Brochure
